1220	3540	So, welcome, everybody.
3540	6140	It's like to everybody that's watching the streams,
6140	9060	to everybody that's actually got the program
9060	13420	and actually started doing the Altspace VR experience,
13420	15640	some as early as just, you know, yesterday,
15640	17840	downloading it and getting it going.
17860	19880	I greatly appreciate it.
19880	21800	It's like, my name's Jason E. Streed.
21800	24080	I'm the DEF CON Group's Global Ambassador.
24080	27480	It's like, I'm also their biggest fanboy,
27480	29100	unashamedly so.
30200	32180	And we're going to talk a little bit about
32180	36100	why we've got this Altspace VR world going.
36100	37460	We're going to talk a little bit about the mission
37460	40460	about DEF CON Groups and the reason why
40460	42160	this is all going on.
42280	44200	We're going to talk a little bit more about
45520	47960	the whole, what brought it about.
47960	50060	It's like, and all the people involved in it.
50060	52160	So, it's like, because this was definitely a group effort
52160	55640	and it was definitely showing exactly the importance of this.
55680	58460	So, I'm really happy to be here.
58460	61680	It's like, this is not the first time I've presented
61680	66920	with no pants at DEF CON, I think, too.
66940	68540	Probably won't be the last.
68540	72580	But I did put on my fancy pajama bottoms for this event.
72580	74600	You can't see them, but they're there.
74600	76080	And that's what counts.
76500	79220	So, I just wanted everybody to know
79880	83560	that, yeah, this has been quite a year.
84320	85200	Right?
85200	87600	It's like, this is not what we expected
87600	89860	to have DEF CON.
89860	92700	I do appreciate the pull on the roof.
92780	97740	But this is literally not exactly what we were expecting.
98000	99900	And so, we adapted.
99900	100820	We're hackers.
100820	102060	That's what we do.
102060	105400	So, I'm really thankful for the way that
105400	108840	this whole community came together to make this happen.
109020	112120	Because it did not happen without
112120	116400	100% community involvement from all over the world.
116400	120460	Five years ago, DT actually approached me
122040	124760	about being the DEF CON Group's Global Ambassador.
125240	126620	And I talked to him.
126620	128780	And when I heard about that,
128780	131220	it's like, I was dumbfounded.
131520	134240	It's like, I was literally just taken aback.
134240	136940	Because it's like, to me, that was a responsibility.
136940	139520	That was not just something that, like, just a role.
139620	140300	It was just a goon.
140300	142420	It was like something where it's like, I wanted to go out.
142420	143600	I had a mission.
143600	149080	And on that day, my mission was to make this a global community.
149480	153540	It's like, a lot of DEF CON Groups were just
154660	157000	three-digit area codes, is how I call it.
157000	158500	Mostly North America.
158900	161860	And it's like, that was most of the DEF CON Groups for a long time.
161860	164100	There were some out way before I got here.
164100	168500	The DC4420 was out and around doing amazing work.
168500	171200	It's like, and there were other DEF CON Groups from
171200	173220	around the world that were out there.
173220	174900	But I didn't think enough.
174900	177300	It's like, we needed a global community.
177580	180580	And so, one of the things that we did was, and one of my missions
180580	183660	was to start going and reaching out to other countries.
183660	184620	I travel a lot.
184620	187620	I go to different conferences all over the world.
187620	191040	And I want to make sure that I'm talking about other local hackers
191040	193260	and telling them that they can be part of this.
193260	197080	It's like, they can actually be part of this community.
197100	199720	That it didn't have to stop just at DEF CON.
199720	203880	We could actually make this a local community effort.
203880	207740	It's like, start showing people in your community what hackers really mean.
207740	209520	What hackers can really do.
209520	212400	Start working amongst yourselves and creating projects
212400	215860	and creating different ideas and going with it.
215860	219020	That's what DEF CON Groups were about.
219020	221440	That's what's so amazing for it to me.
221760	224860	So, one of the things I did was I started traveling.
224860	226060	I started seeing different groups.
226060	227580	I started seeing popping them up.
227580	230880	It's like the DC-010 in Beijing.
230880	233420	The DC-0086 in Beijing.
233420	236380	It's like the DEF CON Group in Hong Kong.
236380	237960	It's like Shenzhen.
237960	241620	It's like the news hackers in Singapore starting one.
241620	243820	It's like seeing the ones forming in India.
243820	247460	It's like the 27... oh, crap, 411.
247460	248980	It's like Johannesburg.
248980	250000	Sorry, Dino.
250000	253480	But it's like the Johannesburg DEF CON Group.
253480	257520	It's like the Durban DEF CON Group.
257520	260560	It's like seeing all the different DEF CON Groups all over.
260560	263820	We've got DEF CON Groups in Saudi Arabia.
263820	265800	We've got them in Germany.
265800	269400	We've got them all over the world.
270000	271640	And it's in Brazil.
271640	275340	It's like, I mean, every continent, I think, has a DEF CON Group.
275700	283120	And one of the things that got me the most during this pandemic was the adaptability of hackers.
283940	285440	Did we stop?
287300	290220	Did we say, this is defeating us?
290220	292120	This is going to be enough?
292460	294000	It's like, we don't know what to do.
294000	295160	We're just going to do our job.
295160	300480	We're just going to bow down, and we're just going to just not communicate, not be part of a group anymore.
300480	302260	We're just going to stay at our house.
302700	303420	No.
305240	308500	Zoom meetings all over the world started popping up.
308500	310380	DEF CON Groups all over the world.
310380	312300	It's like, they're like, oh, BBCs?
312300	313380	We got this.
313380	315560	They started communicating.
315560	317920	They started getting groups going together.
317920	319120	They started communicating.
319120	321280	They started working together.
321740	329540	And it's so weird that it took an apocalypse to get part of my biggest part of my vision to fruition.
329540	330420	But it has.
330420	338180	It's like having Lee from San Diego give a talk at Alan's DEF CON Group in Australia.
339040	341740	That's what we were looking for.
341740	345060	To start getting the groups to work together.
345060	351080	Stop letting borders dictate who our friends were or who our co-groups were.
351080	353520	And start working amongst each other.
353520	355820	It's like being hackers that way.
356100	359500	That was the most important part of all this.
360020	367860	It's like, and nothing showed this the most until when we started trying to create a DEF CON Groups village.
368760	373340	It's like we had people side pocket.
373700	378000	Alan, 800XL, TX from the 9111.
378000	382120	It's like a lot of the volunteers are from there as well.
382120	383900	It's like all this work.
383900	386200	It's like Alan from Australia.
386200	387840	Mira, who's here.
387840	388880	Endler.
390000	391260	The Rapture.
391260	392920	It's like I started this.
392920	396660	A little brief history on this group.
396660	399320	It's like on this village right here.
399340	404520	This only became about because of something that I just tried to copy.
404640	409020	That I was so impressed with was the Rapture, Sean.
409020	411660	It's like created InfoSecOasis.
411660	413860	And their videos are online on YouTube.
413860	415320	You should check them out.
415440	418540	And he threw together with his friends and organizers.
418540	420080	He didn't do it alone either.
420080	424120	It's like there was a lot of great co-organizers with him.
424120	430600	And they created this facsimile of this world that we built on.
431020	436040	And he created InfoSecOasis, which was a virtual conference.
436040	440000	And I am telling you, when I went there and I spoke there.
440240	446360	For the first time during this whole pandemic, I felt like I was at a con.
446860	448840	I felt like I was at a conference.
448840	451000	I've done Zoom conferences.
451000	453860	I've done WebExes.
453860	457640	I've done all the different kinds of virtual conferences.
457640	459600	I'm doing air quotes. You can't see it.
459600	461580	It's like, okay, that's my closest I can do.
461580	465420	I did a lot of virtual conferences while we were there.
465420	467660	It's like this last year.
468640	473680	But going to InfoSecOasis and seeing everybody.
473680	475400	Being able to see you guys.
475400	477320	It's like... or people, sorry.
477320	479040	It's like seeing you people here.
479040	482720	And knowing that there's people in there listening into the audience.
483680	484520	Matters.
485000	489960	For you to be able to see someone actually presenting, someone talking on the stage.
490480	495740	It's like, and trust me, when you see talks later, they're going to have more than just one slide.
495740	498140	It's like, so don't worry about that.
498140	499800	It's like...
499800	503700	When I did the InfoSecOasis, if you check that on YouTube, I just had cats.
503700	504940	I just had different kittens.
504940	508800	So this is, you know, about how I roll virtually.
508800	513280	So one of the things about it, though, was like, I was able to attend.
513280	514980	And I was able to walk around.
515400	518300	And I hung out with Grifter and Serbo.
519440	521300	And that was so amazing.
521300	524000	Because it's like, I walk up to them and say, hey, what's going on?
524000	526580	And it's like, we're giving out virtual hugs.
526580	528820	And we're there.
529140	532420	Even though we're in our different parts of the world.
532480	533940	We were there.
534120	535780	Hanging out together.
535780	539940	Serbo was like, hey, let's go check out this other world.
540340	542640	And Grifter and me were like, sure, why not?
542640	544300	Let's go for it. YOLO.
544300	546240	And so he takes us to this different world.
546240	547620	He takes us to this pub.
547620	552060	And it's like, all of a sudden we're under Cheyenne Mountain with the Stargate.
552060	553800	And it's like, how did this happen?
553840	556280	And it's like, you know, we're going through this.
556420	560440	And Grifter's doing a little joke about aging because we couldn't get back out.
560440	563480	We didn't know how to get out of the Stargate chamber.
563480	564760	So that was odd.
564760	567260	But that was the shenanigans.
567260	568580	That was the fun.
569100	572560	And that's what we tried to bring here to this DEF CON group's village.
573060	575560	There's a pool on the roof.
575700	576920	Go check it out.
577320	580920	It's like, there's a trampoline up there, too, because that's not dangerous.
580960	582700	Well, not now, virtually.
582800	587900	I mean, let's face it, honestly, all us hackers, we'd probably try it if it was actually in real life, too.
587900	590340	But it's like, this one's virtually, so it's way better.
591480	594060	So it's like, go try those out.
594060	598380	Go play around with the dumpster fire.
598380	602120	It's like, when I saw on the screen yesterday, it was so...
602120	606920	I love the fact when people first started going in, the first thing they started doing was like,
606920	608960	let's toss the beanbag chairs over the roof.
608960	612260	And I'm like, okay, I should have seen that one coming.
612940	614020	That's on me.
614020	616200	It's like, but it was hilarious.
616740	618140	Because that's what we're doing.
618140	619940	We're just exploring and having fun.
619940	620720	What can we do?
620720	621780	What can we break?
621780	623120	What can we see?
623120	625680	It's like, and that's totally okay.
625680	627120	That's what I wanted.
627120	630180	That's what everybody that started this wanted.
630960	636160	It's like, out of this whole project, it's like this whole village.
636160	641000	It's like, I literally had the least amount to do in this whole thing happening.
641280	646320	It's like, so many people worked for so many hours in so many time zones.
646320	653260	You do realize that these volunteers, it's like, are working through the night in some time zones.
653260	656420	It's after two o'clock in the morning in Australia.
656740	661300	And Alan's been on the Discord already, working on some of the projects.
662060	674160	So it's like, the commitment to these people to make sure that there is an event here for you, that there's talks here for you, should not go unrecognized and should not go unnoticed.
674160	677980	It's an amazing effort that I've seen.
677980	685380	And it has literally made me emotional sometimes, seeing the detail and the thought.
685800	690560	We talk about the beach balls at Lion Con.
690960	693260	We've got beach balls.
693460	696780	I almost cried when I first saw those, legit.
697060	701780	It's like, when I saw it, and I was having a bad week yesterday, last week anyway.
701780	711500	And when I saw those, I saw the effort and the time and the care it took to make those and put them in there was just unbelievable.
711880	725300	Having the beanbag chairs, it's like all the little details you're going to see in this world was not slapped together, but crafted to create that experience.
725300	728160	A little bit of DEF CON history for you.
728160	731960	It's like the ATM out there in front of the lobby.
731960	737000	That's an homage to the sketchy ATM that was left in the Rio one year.
737100	743430	It's like no one knew how the ATM actually showed up in the Rio during DEF CON.
743720	748140	And it was defaced with DEF CON on the ATM.
748380	751240	That's from DEF CON 13 at the Alexis Park.
751240	754300	Someone hacked the ATM, or maybe not hacked it.
754300	755820	There's controversy about what happened.
755820	757660	It sounds cool if they said they hacked it.
757660	759980	It could have been just branding that they put on there.
759980	762100	It doesn't matter. It sounds cool if they hacked it.
762100	768640	But the ATM at the Alexis Park actually had the DEF CON logos on the screen of the ATM,
768640	772620	which really makes you really want to use that ATM to withdraw some money, right?
772620	774040	It was hilarious.
775640	777540	And there's other homages.
777540	783480	There's other little Easter eggs in these worlds for people to find and to see
783480	786760	and to experience a little bit of DEF CON.
786900	789880	It's like we couldn't give it to you this year.
790000	792740	We couldn't give you the full DEF CON experience.
792740	795100	And I feel bad about that.
795100	797720	And I really wish that this stuff wasn't going on.
797720	800920	There's a lot of horribleness going on in this world.
801300	806780	But for right now, let's try to work together and socialize
806780	810960	and try to listen to talks about people trying to make things better.
810960	814700	People discovering vulnerabilities that are trying to get them fixed.
814780	817880	People that are trying to find new ways to do things,
817880	822160	to inspire other people to learn more and to do new things.
822560	824980	That's what this conference is about.
831200	834080	It's on the Discord servers.
834400	836720	It's like on the different streams.
837020	839140	You've got the biohacking village.
839140	841440	You've got the lockpicking village.
841640	843580	It's like I'm not telling you.
843580	849700	It's like I want you to stay here and experience this world and experience what it is.
849700	855560	I hope more people that are on the streams come and join this world and actually see the experience.
855560	861820	Because all I really want is them to feel what I felt when I went to the first InfoSec Oasis.
861940	864120	I just want to feel that connection.
864120	866140	That they're actually talking to another person.
866140	867320	They see the person.
867540	871020	That it's not just someone on a keyboard.
871100	872880	It's like they actually get to be around there.
872880	875100	But there's other streams.
875100	876220	There's other discords.
876220	880520	There's other parts of DEF CON that you can experience virtually and remotely.
881200	884160	It's like go and check out the car hacking village.
884160	886040	The career hacking village.
886240	890320	It's like there's literally a village trying to help you get a job.
890440	894200	People talk about how do I get a job in information security.
894780	897500	DEF CON is providing a village for that.
897500	902620	Christian Renner, Kathleen, it's like so many other people there are working on that to help out.
903800	907780	So there are so many different places and so many different resources.
907780	910400	Don't let this pandemic go to waste.
911260	914840	I mean literally this is already half a star Yelp review on an apocalypse.
914840	918320	It's like I'm not really pleased with it and I wish I could talk to the manager.
918560	920600	It's like it's been horrible.
921020	923480	But you know what? We go on.
924000	925260	We're hackers.
925260	926180	We adapt.
926180	927300	We improvise.
927300	928160	We overcome.
928160	929960	And yes, I stole that from a movie.
929960	932060	But still, it's good.
932060	934640	And it's part of the hacker credo, I think.
934640	936220	It's part of what we do.
937280	938920	We make it work.
939580	943520	So please, around this village, it's like you're going to see hiccups.
943520	943960	Trust me.
943960	946240	You're going to see glitches in this.
946240	947620	This isn't perfect.
948280	951720	This has only been created in two weeks.
953060	955960	This did not exist three weeks ago.
957260	964380	This was everybody and all the different groups coming together in two weeks to make this happen.
965240	968320	So yeah, it's not going to go flawlessly.
968480	969940	But it's going on.
969940	972900	And it's going to keep going until we're done.
972980	974560	Because that's what we're doing.
974560	975760	We're committed to this.
975760	977580	We want to make it work.
978360	984460	And we want to provide a way for everybody here to learn, but also socialize.
984960	987140	And that's the whole important part.
987140	992780	Because DEF CON groups have all been about socializing, networking,
992780	998120	finding others in your area that had the same passions that you do.
998520	1001980	People talk a lot about DEF CON now.
1001980	1004280	Because there's so many people there.
1004280	1008480	They're like, oh my god, there's 30,000 people that go to DEF CON.
1008540	1011360	It's like, I can't see anything. I can't learn anything.
1011940	1013420	I'm like, are you crazy?
1014580	1021620	You have 30,000 opportunities to find someone that has the same passion that you do.
1023120	1027200	DEF CON is no longer just this conference.
1027200	1028640	I'm doing air quotes again.
1028640	1031740	It's like just a conference to attend.
1033820	1044760	DEF CON is a meeting place of minds and individual passions from all over the world to come together and share that.
1045540	1049320	You like nothing but Wi-Fi? You're only interested in Wi-Fi? Mother...
1049320	1051800	They're the Wi-Fi hacking village.
1052220	1059480	You can spend the whole conference in that village and learn nothing but Wi-Fi.
1060360	1063940	You like lockpicking? Lockpicking village.
1063940	1067220	Social engineering? A social engineering village.
1069100	1077540	So now that 30,000 have become a small pool of people that are in that area.
1077540	1082120	If they're in the SE village, there's a good chance they like social engineering.
1082880	1087920	If they're in the voting village, they probably like voting.
1089720	1091300	Or voting hacking, right?
1091300	1096600	It's like so if they're in a village, you know that they're going to share the same kind of thing.
1096780	1100900	So please get out there. Enjoy it.
1100900	1105740	I know this was supposed to be a 30-minute talk, but it's like I don't plan this.
1106040	1108340	It's like I rant till I'm done.
1108340	1112280	And it's like and I don't like repeating myself, though I do it sometimes too often.
1113000	1115740	It's like so just understand this.
1116740	1125680	We're making this DEF CON groups village the best possible presentation, the best possible environment for you.
1125680	1130960	But just like DEF CON, that part doesn't matter.
1130960	1133140	It's what you bring to it.
1133880	1135700	It's what you're bringing to it.
1135700	1140840	What you want to get out of it and what you work to bring out of it.
1140840	1143400	And what you share for others.
1143400	1144920	That's what makes it.
1145980	1148200	That's what makes it a worthy experience.
1148200	1150360	That's what makes it a success.
1150700	1157200	So don't just partake of this discord or this DEF CON groups village.
1157540	1159140	Add to it.
1159140	1161760	Have conversations with other people.
1162040	1164320	Go outside your comfort zone.
1164460	1168160	It's like go run to when you're seeing people in the lobby and they're talking about something.
1168160	1169540	Go and talk to them.
1169540	1172660	It's harder at DEF CON, I know.
1172660	1176340	But it's so rewarding because they want to learn too.
1176500	1179440	And they want to share their information too.
1179740	1183340	It's easier here because we're all virtual.
1183760	1185740	So go do that.
1187100	1189760	Take something from here.
1190000	1192600	But also leave something.
1192780	1194280	Some knowledge.
1194460	1196040	A connection with someone else.
1196040	1198500	It's like bring something to this group.
1198500	1202760	And when you are done with this and when DEF CON is over,
1203280	1207820	find a local DEF CON group in your area and keep it going.
1208020	1210620	Keep that knowledge share going.
1210680	1215980	And I always tell people, if there's not a DEF CON groups in your area,
1215980	1218000	Mother, start one.
1218360	1221540	You don't need permission. We're hackers.
1222380	1223880	Start a group.
1223880	1225600	Make it happen.
1226540	1229500	It's like let's all work together.
1229500	1233740	Not just to make things better in the online world,
1233740	1236420	but also in IRL.
1237160	1240860	So I hope you have a really good DEF CON.
1240860	1243020	I hope you have really good villages.
1243020	1246680	There's a lot more technical and a lot better talks coming up.
1246700	1250300	And I think you're going to really enjoy them.
1250860	1254640	And they're from DEF CON groups from all over the world.
1254640	1258420	Brazil, India, Australia.
1258420	1262360	It's like Colombia, I believe, or Chile.
1262360	1263060	It's like, sorry.
1263060	1264960	It's like, but from everywhere.
1265820	1268480	People sharing knowledge.
1268920	1271960	Not for money, but because of passion.
1272240	1274640	Because that's what they believe in.
1275740	1277360	So let's learn something.
1277360	1278840	It's like, let's go with it.
1278840	1281500	And hopefully we make this a monthly occurrence.
1281500	1285640	I want to keep having DEF CON group global villages.
1285640	1290780	It's like a DEF CON group global meetup every month.
1290940	1295720	It's like the pandemic has shown us that we can adapt.
1296020	1299860	The pandemic has shown a lot of people a lot of things.
1300320	1303240	We've understood what essential workers are.
1303240	1306460	We've understood how easy it is to work from home.
1306740	1309320	We found a lot of things out.
1309320	1312360	A lot of bad things and a lot of positive things.
1313260	1315800	Let this be one of the positive things.
1315920	1318280	That we can have a global meetup of hackers.
1318280	1322000	That we can keep working together to make things better.
1322280	1326220	So I'm going to open it up for eight minutes of questions.
1326500	1328680	It's like if anybody has any.
1328800	1330620	And if you don't, that's totally okay.
1330620	1332860	Because let's face it, I've talked a lot.
1333300	1335560	So I'm totally okay with that.
1336520	1337760	Is there any questions?
1337760	1339880	Just do your little raise hand emoji.
1342390	1345130	Okay, that's a clapping. I appreciate the applause.
1346710	1348090	Is there any questions?
1348090	1349870	And that's fine if there's not.
1351510	1352470	Perfect.
1352970	1354110	That's awesome.
1354110	1357150	Okay, we're going to give it a small 30-minute break.
1357150	1359970	While we get the other speakers prepped and ready.
1360230	1364090	And once again, thank you so much for being here.
1364090	1367830	Please bear with us as we go through this village.
1367830	1370830	And try to keep it working and keep it afloat.
1371010	1374190	And I will be around.
1374190	1376970	I'm also the camera person right there.
1376970	1381150	That's why that weird blue person is floating in the sky right there.
1381230	1384630	So we will be having the camera going through.
1384630	1388390	And whenever you see that person, let them know that they are building.
1388490	1391570	And that goes to the DEF CON Discord server.
1391570	1393850	And also streaming on Twitch and YouTube.
1393850	1398330	So people after DEF CON can come and look at the village.
1398330	1399190	Look at the talks.
1399190	1400490	See what we did here.
1400490	1403470	Because I do not want this to fade away.
1403850	1405590	I want this to stay.
1405590	1408470	I want people to remember this and see this.
1408470	1413010	That in two weeks, groups from all over the world made this happen.
1413230	1415050	And it was effing awesome.
1415810	1418570	And a part of that was because of y'all.
1418650	1420830	Not just because of the people that created it.
1420830	1423810	But the people that took the time and effort to show up.
1423850	1426750	And be a part of it in the actual all space.
1426830	1428570	Thank you for all that.
1428850	1430250	Okay, now I'm done.
1430990	1431950	See you later guys.
1431950	1433230	Wait, hold on, hold on.
1433230	1434670	Because this is so much cooler.
1436250	1437430	Drop mic.
1437430	1438350	I'm out.
1439430	1442370	And now I just like move sideways off the stage.
1443330	1444690	Play the music.
1445030	1446090	And boom.
1465620	1467800	And that was pretty interesting.
1469460	1469940	So...
1472460	1474940	I have no idea what do I have to say.
1474940	1479380	So, did you guys like the keynote session?
1480300	1482940	If yes, drop me some hearts.
1484800	1486300	Thank you.
1486460	1491300	Up next, we have a talk on red teaming.
1491300	1497800	So, if anybody has some experience with the same or wants to learn something about how red teaming works.
1497860	1502760	Or how you can set up a red team and other stuffs.
1502760	1505180	You can just go on and ask questions to the host.
1505240	1508800	And we're gonna have the same presentation any time sooner.
1509080	1510600	So, be there.
1515120	1518240	Oh, I'm gonna have a hard time to put that mic on.
1518380	1519400	So, okay.
1520040	1521400	That's a success.
