720	7920	Hi, I'm Will Roper. And I'm Brett Goldstein. And welcome to HackASAT, DEFCON's first live
7920	14180	satellite hacking event. Do you need some hand sanitizer, Will? I do, Brett. Okay, here you go.
14180	19400	Thank you. Okay, there's a pandemic going, but we're actually really looking forward to being
19400	26880	part of safe mode. But guess what? I run a SWAT team of nerds, and I've brought my best to DEFCON.
26880	32580	We're representing all of the Air Force and Space Force's programs, and a lot of them are satellites
32580	38940	overhead in space. And with space being increasingly important to how we operate in the military and to
38940	44640	how all of us live our personal lives, we wanted to see if hackers could get in to a satellite
44640	50680	orbiting overhead at seven kilometers a second. Will and I are done with the days of security
50680	56360	through obscurity. We want you to take a look at what we've done. We think it's pretty good,
56360	61600	but bring your best because we're going to show you some pretty cool stuff. Absolutely. We are
61600	67500	getting out from behind our high fence lines to learn from communities like yours how to be better
67500	73660	at cyber hygiene so it's not the easy way to take our military down. With our satellites being so
73660	78980	important to the way our military operates, why fight a fighter or a ship or soldiers on the
78980	84700	ground if you can take out the satellites that enable them? And what easier way to do that than
84700	90080	cyber? It's the quicker, easier, and more seductive way to beat us. And we've got to
90080	94960	defeat this dark side of the force if we're going to be a military that people can count on. So if
94960	101660	you've got your game on, bring your Emacs, bring your VI. I'm an Emacs guy, but let's see what
101660	107780	you've got and let's have a great DEF CON together. Absolutely. We started with a fighter.
107780	112900	We've now moved to a satellite. And in future, we want to bring more opportunities for the
112900	118600	community to learn. So share us your thoughts as what exciting opportunity can we come back with
118600	124120	next year? And me with my Air and Space Force program and Brett with his SWAT team of nerds
124120	126300	will be here. Look forward to seeing you.
