1490	4210	Hey everyone, hope y'all are doing well.
4210	6810	Hope everyone's staying safe out there.
7230	12170	And welcome back to DEF CON Safe Mode.
13370	15010	I'm nothing.
15550	21670	And yeah, so I'm gonna be doing a video here.
21730	23050	This is pre-recorded,
23050	25950	but I am gonna be sitting there live with you.
26170	29370	And this is gonna be going over the
31510	34010	infamous Western Electric 30C
34610	38650	and how I was actually able to defeat this thing.
40770	44010	So, start off kind of slow for those of you
44010	46350	who don't know anything about this lock.
47590	49290	And I'm actually gonna start off
49290	51390	talking about both of these here.
51850	58090	So these locks are the result of a lot of research
58090	60450	and development from the Western Electric Company
62250	66850	to solve the problem of payphones.
66930	69750	So these are payphone locks.
70130	74350	And these were put into place during a time
74350	78210	where people were not huge fans of the phone companies
78210	82330	and paying for phone calls and things like that.
83430	85510	So these locks were,
85510	87830	there was a lot of money that went into the research
87830	89930	and development of these,
89930	93950	and they were designed to be very resilient
94720	98790	to everything from vandalism,
98790	103300	to weather and just all around wear and tear,
103850	109420	and also to surreptitious entry and manipulation.
110880	113060	So these locks were designed,
114460	117720	there were a few before these,
117720	120720	and the original patent that I'm aware of
120720	123260	was released in 1966.
125900	130480	And the original patent covered many aspects of these locks,
130480	134160	but there's some things in the patent that weren't on these,
134160	136960	and there's some things on these that weren't in the patent.
137860	142700	So this first one you see here is the Western Electric 29A.
143500	146640	And this is the lock that would protect the electronics
146640	148300	of the payphone.
148600	150600	It went in the upper portion
151900	155160	and secured the upper housing of the payphone
155700	159540	where all the electronic elements were.
160240	164000	This is a five lever tumbler lock.
166800	168860	This is actually unsprung,
169480	172080	which means that the levers do not have a spring
172080	174780	that will return them to their zero position.
176940	180420	And instead, when you turn the key back,
180420	184960	there is a portion on the actuator
184960	187280	that pushes on the lower part of the levers,
187280	189640	which returns them all to the zero position.
191060	193440	And like I said, this has five levers,
194500	197420	but this big gap you see in the key here
197420	202280	is a stationary ward that goes in between
202920	206940	the front two levers and the rear three levers,
207980	210740	which makes it so that if you were to try
210740	214160	to reproduce a key, you would have to have that gap
214160	215780	to fit through there.
215940	219660	And also in picking, this sits down pretty low.
219660	223020	It makes it very difficult to get a picking wire behind it.
224020	226560	So it definitely makes opening this lock
226560	228620	without the key pretty difficult.
229500	231580	Now, all the levers in here had false gates
231580	233840	as well as true gates, of course,
233840	235160	or else it wouldn't open.
237980	240980	And actually here, I have one here
241860	244420	that has an acrylic face on it.
245040	247420	So as you can see, there's no springs.
247700	250880	You can't see much because of this copper plate here
250880	252480	that guards the levers.
253020	259160	But what you can see is when I turn the key,
259160	262100	you can see all of those levers line up.
262440	264940	And that silver part that you see in there
264940	267540	is the stationary ward.
268060	273880	So the fence also has a cutout to go past that ward
275440	277780	and be able to open up.
279900	281560	Now, this is a part of the payphone,
281560	283240	but I'm not gonna be spending a whole lot of time
283240	284120	on this tonight.
284120	287000	I just wanted to kind of give you a quick overview
287000	289640	of this one so that you'd know the differences
289640	292020	between this and the 30C.
294280	299000	So the 30C is actually a lock
299000	301940	with a pretty interesting history behind it.
304160	309100	This lock was considered unpickable for a very long time.
311320	315480	And it was considered impossible to manipulate open
316600	320760	until a man named James Clark figured out a way
320760	324460	to get into it and went across the country
324460	329360	back in the 1980s, stealing over half a million dollars
329360	332200	in coins from payphones.
332960	336840	And he evaded the police by basically
340000	345180	by continuously moving, not really following any patterns.
345180	347820	There were a couple of little patterns that he followed.
347960	353240	He would mainly hit large sporting events, casinos,
353240	355000	places where a lot of people would be there
355000	357120	and a lot of people would be using the phone.
357880	360120	And apparently he would just go into the booth,
360120	361680	pretend to make a phone call.
361680	363980	And while he was sitting there on the phone,
363980	366820	he would manipulate the box open, steal the coins,
366820	368760	lock it back up and leave.
370080	373720	And nobody knows how he actually got into these things.
373740	377100	He was on America's Most Wanted twice.
377560	379480	He was called in the newspapers,
379480	381800	everything from the Payphone Bandit,
381800	386200	the Telephone Bandit, the Coinbox Bandit.
386420	389220	I've heard some people actually call him the Phone Ranger,
389220	392380	though I've never seen that in print anywhere.
393400	395340	And I looked a lot.
395340	397560	Honestly, all I found on the Phone Ranger
397560	400920	was a crappy old comic book character.
401080	402640	It was pretty funny.
403600	405760	But anyway, he is pretty well known
405760	408000	as the Phone Ranger among the community.
411060	412640	But no one was ever,
412640	414620	even though he was captured with his tools
415100	417920	and actually while he was working on one of these,
417920	420120	excuse me, I'm gonna have a sip of whiskey real quick.
429770	432690	No one ever actually was able to figure out how he did it.
435430	436050	Um...
438580	442040	Now, the Bell Company, um...
445540	447980	hired retired FBI agents
448890	451000	and spent a pretty good amount of money
451000	454700	trying to figure out how he was able to get into these locks.
455500	460110	And to my knowledge, they never made any progress up to that point.
461500	464780	Um, so they spent quite a long time
466340	470860	These locks are from the single-slot Fortress payphone.
472340	477420	And they were in service for, I think, around 50 years.
478540	481880	Altogether, well, 50 years ago from now, I think they were possibly...
482440	483960	Some of them are still used.
483960	486140	They are still in places, but very rarely,
486140	489560	as we all know how rarely payphones are actually used these days.
490800	495480	But they were continuously in service for, I think, about 30 years
495480	499740	or so, and previous models to this
499740	503200	went back quite a bit further than that.
505520	510120	But anyway, he was ultimately arrested in 1988.
513100	517720	They said he was identifiable by a ponytail, a baseball cap,
517720	519920	and I think cowboy boots.
520060	523740	And he was caught in a payphone playing with a lock
524540	527300	or in a phone booth playing with a lock.
528240	531720	But anyway, so I hadn't heard about that story.
532180	536400	And the first time I heard about this lock, well, not the very first time,
536400	538380	but the first time I got interested in it
539440	544260	was when Matt Smith, also known as Huxley Pig,
545100	550060	did a video, he did a talk, and I saw the recorded talk on video
553640	558420	about a few really cool locks that he had been working on.
558900	560400	And this was one of them.
561280	564480	And he had actually made a little bit of progress
564480	569200	on how to go about beginning to pick this.
571020	575240	He was still working on it, and he said he had spent a lot of time
575240	577800	and effort in trying to figure it out.
578840	582180	And that kind of made me start to think about this lock.
582180	584600	As in, kind of a goal.
588340	590880	Just basically just thinking about how cool it would be
590880	593420	if I could be the one that actually figured it out.
594400	598100	And so I went online, I searched a couple of articles.
598500	601660	Matt Blaze has an amazing article on these locks.
602420	606420	There's also a little bit of information on a couple of the lock picking forums.
607240	614820	But it wasn't until Captain Hook released a video on Lock Pickers United
615600	619280	about a decoding method to get into this lock
620080	624100	to be able to go in there, figure out the key bitting,
624100	627010	and replicate a key to open this thing.
627940	631390	So with a set of wires similar to this,
632140	634860	with very precise measurements,
635800	638920	and little 90 degree turns on the ends,
639880	645560	he was able to go in there and exploit the fact that returning the key to the zero position
645560	648580	would also return all the levers to the zero position.
649240	656780	And there was a finite and an exact measurement between the keyway and the gates and the levers.
657900	660800	And since he was able to fit a piece of wire in there,
661360	665820	he was then able to determine where the gates were, true and false,
667120	670460	and was able to replicate and duplicate a key,
670960	674380	make his own key, and open the lock from there.
675300	680580	So when I saw that video, it kind of kicked me in the butt.
680920	686160	And I thought, oh man, if I'm going to do this, I better get started.
686160	692000	So that day, I went on eBay, found one of these, and ordered it.
692940	697920	And it arrived a few days later, I started messing with it,
697920	700940	and figured out why everybody had such a hard time with it.
700940	704100	This thing is an incredible pain.
704780	708760	But the first thing I did was...
712160	714460	Actually, I think... yeah.
714460	718680	I think the first thing I did was create an acrylic faceplate for it.
718880	721060	So that I could see inside.
721680	724640	So basically I knew what I was dealing with.
725520	729280	So now this is the 30C here with an acrylic faceplate.
729680	732540	And you can see a couple differences from the 29A.
732540	734720	This one actually does have a spring.
735180	739680	There's a single leaf spring here that puts tension on all the levers.
740540	743860	If you raise one lever up, it lifts this spring,
743860	748400	and basically eliminates spring tension from the rest of the levers,
748400	749800	so they are free-floating.
751440	755100	This one does not have that stationary ward in the center.
757000	760280	But everything else is pretty much the same as the 29,
761040	763320	besides this mechanism right here.
763520	766420	And this is what makes this lock so tough.
767060	769060	This is the tumbler blocker.
770260	772180	And what this does,
772180	775700	is this serrated piece here,
775700	778480	along with the points on the levers,
778480	780820	makes it so that as soon as you put tension
781840	784000	on this thing,
785360	787340	that blocker moves into place
788000	790020	and locks all the levers into place
790020	792760	before the fence even gets to the levers.
794380	796240	So in picking a lock, what we do
796240	799660	is we put tension on the lock.
800140	802000	And after you put tension on it,
802000	805380	you manipulate the internals, and you can feel, say,
805380	808480	on a lever lock, the fence rubbing on the levers.
808480	811740	So you'll know when you set a lever when it clicks into place.
812540	813760	Well, on this one,
814560	816720	before you can even put tension on it,
816720	821000	that blocker moves in and stops all those levers from being able to move.
822020	823400	You can see here,
823400	825640	that blocker's already engaged,
825640	828900	but the fence is super far away from the gates.
830240	834100	Now that is for a couple different reasons they did that.
834380	836480	Obviously one being pick resistance
836480	838500	and manipulation resistance.
838560	843420	But also another being lack of maintenance.
844000	845900	Some of these were in very remote areas
845900	847780	where the weather
847780	850780	and the environment was not very friendly.
851340	854400	So if you got a lot of dirt and gunk and other things in this lock
854400	857800	or if there was a lot of key wear, things like that,
858280	859880	as soon as you put the key in
859880	863060	and it raises the levers up to an approximate height,
863060	865320	that blocker will lock them all into place
865320	867080	and make sure that they're at the right height
867080	870100	for the fence to move into the gates.
871480	874240	So that design was both for manipulation resistance
874240	876400	but also for longevity of the lock
877600	881040	and to allow it to work in some very harsh conditions.
882900	884760	So that's what makes it so tough to pick
884760	886400	is that blocker there.
887360	889560	Now the very first time I picked this lock
889560	891820	what I did was
891820	894120	I bypassed that blocker.
894500	898080	There's a video of it online, it was the first video that I posted of this lock
901410	902890	and I took a shim
903430	905390	like this, actually this is the one
907170	908730	inserted it in the top
911850	912330	and
912850	915330	you gotta get it under the anti-tamper switch
915330	916350	which I'll show you a little later
916350	919390	and that can actually hold the blocker back
920190	922630	so that I could go in there and manipulate the levers
923170	926190	and see what it felt like to actually pick this thing.
927610	928970	So once I did that
929550	932150	I posted a video online to basically
932490	935370	show my progress, show that I had actually picked the lock
935370	937530	which at the time it was a world's first
938610	940890	nobody had picked one of these on camera before
940890	945150	even using a shim to bypass the blocker
945870	947150	so it was a first
947150	951130	but it wasn't the first that I was looking for
953270	955030	but after posting that video
955030	956770	I got quite a bit
956770	958950	of response from people
960530	962090	Captain Hook being one of them
963850	965950	and I talked to him a bit
965950	966810	about this lock
967910	971390	and got some tips, we exchanged a couple
973470	974890	little here and theres
974890	975630	about the lock
976770	980150	and got to talking, Captain Hook is an amazing person
981730	983710	great picker, one of the best in the world
985030	985550	and
985550	988810	I didn't want to give too much away
988810	992090	but I mentioned that I had been working on a method
992090	994970	of picking it that was entirely through the keyway
994970	996890	which is what we're looking for
999390	1001150	So the first thing I did
1002850	1004770	was I took his idea
1005470	1007330	of using bent wires
1007330	1008410	to find the gates
1009110	1013190	and I thought, well what if instead of identifying the gates one at a time
1013970	1015450	what if I took a wire
1016810	1018390	and bent it in a way
1019530	1022610	that I could insert it in the lock, in the keyway
1023910	1026030	and put pressure on all those
1026030	1026910	levers at once
1028090	1030250	I could then pick them one at a time
1031010	1034750	and get the wire to go into all the true gates
1034750	1037710	which would set the levers all to the correct height
1038990	1040150	and I could then
1040530	1043750	turn the bolt and open the lock
1045630	1047190	Now this kind of worked
1048550	1050990	I was actually able to
1051730	1054290	get all the levers set onto the wire
1056010	1058030	but when it came time to actually
1058030	1059610	throw the bolt and open the lock
1059610	1061870	that's where I ran into some issues
1064610	1066810	It's kind of a chunky wire
1066810	1068790	and there's not a lot of room to work in there
1069690	1074170	So, it got in the way, unfortunately.
1074250	1081710	So when I went to throw the bolt, the fence got stuck on the wire and would not move enough
1081710	1084710	to actually open the lock, unfortunately.
1085090	1088570	I spent a lot of time trying to perfect this wire method.
1089110	1093850	That's all the scratches you see inside here, was me working on the wire,
1093850	1098070	trying to get it in there perfectly and get everything to work.
1098070	1102790	I experimented with a lot of different ways. I tried to get all the levers set right,
1102790	1106790	then put the bolt in a little bit, and then remove the wire and continue,
1106790	1108370	but nothing was working.
1109730	1117150	I mean, it was a good idea, but it ultimately failed, unfortunately.
1120130	1125250	So, well, here's another one that I had made.
1125250	1131410	This is a much flatter wire that I thought might work.
1131410	1134510	It's a much weaker, much flatter wire. I figured if I could do that,
1134510	1138330	maybe I could just force the bolt through the wire, bend it out of the way,
1138330	1141650	but at least the lock would be open, but that didn't work either.
1144450	1150190	So I started thinking about Matt, HuxleyPig's video again,
1150190	1158370	and he had come up with an idea where he would overlift one of the levers
1159770	1164470	up to the point where it would hold the blocker back from the top.
1165090	1171070	So I don't know if I can get this in here to show you how this would work, but let's see.
1172850	1178690	So if you lift... oh, wait a minute, I've got to turn the key way.
1180650	1182490	Get that out of the way.
1187550	1194850	So if you lift up on one of the levers, and you lift it past where it's supposed to go...
1194850	1198990	whoops, I don't think I can do this without actually turning the key.
1200010	1201130	Meh.
1202710	1208370	But you can get it overlifted to where it will actually get stuck up here
1209090	1213670	and hold the blocker back, and I think you're actually deforming the lever at that point.
1213670	1216110	It's really tough to get it up there.
1217550	1226010	But it was an interesting idea, and it made me think about
1226010	1231130	instead of trying to align the gates using a wire or anything like that,
1231130	1238210	maybe I could use the levers to hold the blocker back, but in a different way.
1239450	1246210	And one day I was driving, I was driving at work and talking to Captain Hook,
1246210	1249310	and I had an idea.
1249310	1256590	And I had to wait all day, it was super hard to wait to not leave work early or run home and try it.
1256850	1261530	But I had an idea on what I could possibly do.
1261830	1268310	So what I thought was if I could hold one of the levers up so that the point of the lever
1269230	1276350	would sit at the point of one of these serrations, it might hold that blocker back just enough
1276350	1281550	to where I could pick the levers past the blocker.
1281610	1285670	Now I'd still have to deal with the blocker, they'd still be clicking in these little serrations,
1285670	1292030	but it might be just enough to where it wouldn't be fully engaged and I could actually pick the lock.
1293290	1299470	So I started work, as soon as I got home I started working on creating something that would make this happen.
1302750	1307390	And ultimately, I created this.
1309110	1313970	Just this little flag tool here, it's got some warding cut into it there.
1315190	1316470	And what this does...
1317650	1320090	Ah, where's that tension wrench? Here it is.
1320090	1327510	Alright, so what this does is you actually insert this right into that first piece of warding,
1327510	1330810	all the way back and sit it into the actuator.
1335020	1340220	And when it's sitting there, you then tension the lock,
1343390	1346070	and that little flag in the back...
1346690	1351110	I don't know if you can see that, let's try to get some better light here...
1358300	1363400	So that rear lever is sticking up just a little bit more than the rest of them.
1363400	1364900	Can you see that back there?
1368330	1370130	Yeah, I think you can see that.
1370490	1373550	So that is actually holding that blocker back.
1375290	1378370	And what I was able to do at that point...
1379810	1382230	was get a picking wire in there.
1382290	1385030	And actually I started with the picking wire in there.
1385390	1388250	But it would hold the blocker just enough...
1388890	1392250	that I was actually able to put tension on the lock...
1393270	1394910	and move the levers.
1396210	1399950	And that was actually the very first way that I ever picked this lock open.
1400310	1403330	And it worked! It actually worked.
1403830	1406190	There's a couple videos of it online.
1407470	1411670	The first one got a lot of scrutiny, of course, because it was a world's first.
1412310	1419810	There was a little piece of wire sitting on my desk that people thought was some sort of a shim to hold the blocker back,
1419810	1421950	or they had all sorts of crazy ideas.
1421950	1426590	But as soon as that happened, I immediately did another video with a clean desk...
1426590	1432050	and made sure that there was no possible way whatsoever that it was not real.
1433910	1437170	But that was the very first way that I picked this thing open.
1437170	1440390	And I was super happy. I couldn't believe it.
1440590	1443950	I was just out of this world ecstatic.
1443950	1446330	It was incredible. It was so great.
1450390	1455730	But in thinking about it, it wasn't the easiest thing in the world.
1455730	1458060	It's a very delicate balancing act.
1458650	1464050	And I wanted to make it even better.
1465440	1478810	So with this, this was designed to hold the blocker just below that last lever's true gate.
1479810	1482870	So that 8th lever would be the last one that I picked.
1484190	1490370	And when I picked it, it would be the last one, and I only had to go one click to get it into its true gate.
1490950	1497830	And I think, I'm pretty sure, that this one tool probably would have worked for any other lock...
1497830	1501250	unless that 8th lever was a zero cut.
1501370	1502650	If it was lower.
1503570	1506810	Anything higher, you could have shot it up into place.
1506810	1509790	It wouldn't have been easy, but it would have been doable.
1511190	1512810	But, um...
1514090	1517650	If it was a zero cut, it would already be sitting too high.
1517790	1520530	And you'd have to hope that you could get it to drop down.
1532650	1534690	Sorry. Went in my whistle again.
1541700	1549240	So then I had the idea of, what if I can hold all the levers up to the right height?
1551040	1555900	What if I can make all the levers hold that blocker back?
1555900	1559940	So it didn't matter which one I picked, when, what the binding order was.
1561480	1562000	And...
1562000	1564720	So I started making tension wrenches.
1565720	1571300	I designed a bunch of different tensioners that would go in and hold the levers up to different heights.
1572420	1573440	And, um...
1574800	1577900	There was all slight problems with it.
1577900	1584820	You know, it was hard to get a wire in there and keep holding everything, and it was still a very delicate balancing act.
1584980	1586280	Don't get me wrong.
1586600	1603460	But ultimately, what I figured out was that a thin wiper insert was exactly the right height to go in there, in that first ward, and hold those levers up to the exact point where they need to be to hold that blocker back.
1605600	1608300	And you can actually pick the lock like this too.
1609300	1611120	Now again, it's difficult.
1612180	1614840	Because there's not a whole lot of room to work.
1616120	1619160	But it does hold all the levers up to where you need them.
1620800	1624660	And you can go in and pick. It's possible.
1629040	1631580	But again, that wasn't good enough.
1631940	1633660	It wasn't easy enough.
1637520	1638060	So...
1639640	1641320	I started, um...
1643020	1648920	I basically just started kind of playing with the lock, and looking at what happened when I did different things.
1650040	1654300	So I started looking at what would happen if I just tensioned it, right?
1654520	1663980	So you just tension it, and I finally noticed, if you look here, when you tension this thing, the blocker's not engaged.
1664920	1668760	It's sitting point to point with one of these levers.
1669480	1673260	But also, that bolt isn't engaged either.
1674900	1680140	The bottom of the fence here is actually hitting the bottom of the levers.
1684130	1689330	So, this lock starts in a very interesting configuration here.
1689330	1696230	I mean, you'd think that the blocker would engage, hold all the levers at zero, this would have no room to go in, things like that.
1696230	1698790	But for some reason, it's not.
1700230	1703670	And all those levers are held right there.
1704350	1707330	But this guy's hitting on the bottom.
1710230	1710710	So...
1712270	1721150	If you were to put a picking wire in here, you can actually start picking this lock.
1721670	1727650	But unfortunately, nothing's moving, because that fence is stuck at the bottom there.
1731890	1751780	So, I started taking measurements, and I realized eventually, that if I took the lowest possible, or the smallest possible wiper insert, and inserted it here, in between the wards there,
1752880	1764000	that, plus the picking wire, was about just the right height to hold those levers at that same zero spot where the tensioner was holding them before.
1766920	1780320	So, what I figured out at this point, was that I can actually tension the lock, then insert a picking wire,
1782640	1799180	and if I just hit the couple levers that are holding the fence back, I get to that spot where I want to be.
1802630	1813990	Now granted, it is a balancing act, and that blocker will lock in a lot, so it takes a lot of resets.
1813990	1820330	And if you're ever trying to pick this thing, do not be afraid to start over, because you have to start over a lot.
1821110	1845360	But eventually, you'll start to learn which levers to pick first, and once you realize that, you can actually go about picking this thing.
1853380	1859600	So, if you see that, the levers are sitting at the very bottom of the blocker there, holding it back just enough.
1861260	1871960	So, let's go in and find the lever that the fence is stuck on, get it out of the way, so the fence will then engage, but the blocker is still being held back.
1875320	1887020	We're then going to find a couple of the levers, and you actually want to try to pick the very tallest levers first, to get them out of your way.
1890720	1895620	Oops, lever wrong. So, if you ever hit a wrong lever, you'll have to restart.
1896320	1899180	And that's okay, like I said, it's going to happen a lot.
1916760	1919200	So, just feel around in there for a binder.
1919820	1921800	There we go, find the binder.
1926640	1928760	Oop, blocker engaged again.
1935370	1944570	So, I'm probably not going to be able to do this live on video, or not quite live, but on this video here, without some practice, I haven't picked one of these in quite a while.
1947930	1955800	But, I don't know, maybe I'll get lucky.
1963890	1969450	Oops, dropped the actuator there. That's what happens when your lock's not fully put together.
2043420	2045040	Alright, now I'm determined.
2111780	2115520	I'm going too high back there.
2116620	2118320	Maybe not.
2121470	2123110	There we go.
2123770	2127090	Alright, so, there it was.
2128350	2133290	I hope that was easy enough for everyone to see.
2135930	2138790	But, yeah, so it is possible.
2140050	2150690	That was a full pick, granted with a clear face, so it's not that impressive, of the Western Electric 30C.
2151810	2156830	So, hopefully, we'll get some more people out there picking these things.
2161070	2165650	Yeah, I hope everybody enjoyed that greatly.
2166470	2182090	So, at the end of this, I'm actually going to attach the video where I pick this lock, without the cover taken off, fully factory sealed, with that same method.
2184350	2190430	So you can see what it looks like without an acrylic cover on it.
2190790	2193890	But, anyway, yeah, there we are.
2194450	2197890	If anyone has any questions or anything, just...
2198990	2204890	I've been here the whole time, so I'm sure you'll have asked them, but feel free to get a hold of me.
2205830	2210250	I'm on Discord. The Lockpickers United Discord is nothing.
2210250	2213570	I have a YouTube channel, which is a nothing symbol.
2213870	2217530	If you search Western Electric 30C, you can find me.
2220810	2228730	And I'm here. If anyone wants my email address, it's mr.nothingpicks at gmail.com.
2228750	2235330	Reach out to me if you have any questions. If you're stuck, I will gladly help anyone through this.
2235930	2239330	So, alright, there we are. Thanks a lot, all.
2239690	2244190	I hope you all enjoyed DEF CON, and stay safe out there.
2244410	2245810	Take care. Bye.
2248070	2251670	Alright, hey everyone. Hope you're all doing well.
2252610	2259010	So, I have another Western Electric 30C here.
2259950	2263170	This one has not been taken apart yet.
2263470	2265810	All the rivets are still intact.
2266690	2270390	It is just like I received it.
2270890	2273570	I do have a key for it.
2273770	2276810	It's got some pretty extreme bidding.
2277770	2281270	It's got a zero cut right there in the two position.
2281590	2283970	Five cut back there.
2284290	2286650	That number four is a one cut.
2286650	2293470	It's annoying trying to set those levers without oversetting anything else or bumping anything else. Whatever.
2294010	2297650	But, it works sometimes.
2297650	2302010	I think one of those zero cut lever jumps up if I move the key too fast.
2302670	2307510	And you can see the blocker, if you look in that corner, moving in and out.
2310610	2313350	So, that's still there.
2316350	2325350	Yeah, so, let me see if I can get this thing open here.
2333700	2342060	Alright, so, I kind of developed a new technique that doesn't involve that third tool.
2342060	2345360	Just a picking wire and a tensioner.
2348140	2354160	Kind of doing a lot of trial and error on these things and research and what not.
2354280	2360700	Hoping to get something pretty comprehensive put together at some point.
2371520	2374620	You are going to see me reset a lot.
2374960	2380480	Because, if I do anything wrong, I have to completely start over.
2815640	2817120	Yes!
2817580	2819220	Hell yeah!
2819880	2822160	Alright, there it is.
2822640	2823820	Oh man!
2824720	2826180	Yes!
2826180	2827430	Oh, I'm so happy.
2827780	2835410	Oh, I'm so excited right now.
2837980	2848240	Alright, so, yeah, since it's not taken apart, I can't really gut it for you.
2848240	2853060	But, I guess I can at least kind of give you a 360 again.
2853620	2856640	Let me drop this out of the way first.
2861560	2866080	Alright, so, there it is, picked open.
2872890	2874790	Oh, I'm so happy.
2879720	2882100	Alright, now over here.
2882340	2888660	Let's see if we can get this image of the blocker coming back out.
2895070	2896810	There it is.
2898350	2899990	Alright all.
2900790	2903250	Western Electric 30C.
2903290	2904650	Picked.
2905250	2908810	Alright, have a great one. Take care all.
