WEBVTT

00:00.000 --> 00:09.300
We're at the DEF CON 30 Cloud Village, where there's a CTF going on, there's constant talks going on right now, and there's so much to learn about cloud security.

00:09.360 --> 00:12.240
Now, can you tell me a little bit about the village, really what you're doing here?

00:12.240 --> 00:13.000
Sure, yeah.

00:13.000 --> 00:15.740
So right now, today, we've got two main aspects of it.

00:15.740 --> 00:22.400
We've got the presenters in the presentation, so all these great talks on AWS, GCP, and Azure-based security, for the most part.

00:22.400 --> 00:31.200
And then we have a whole CTF section as well, where folks can actually sit down and work as teams, or they can actually have assistants, you know, and try and hit the leaderboards up there.

00:32.020 --> 00:35.100
Maybe you might be able to get a quick look at that.

00:35.140 --> 00:36.340
And those are the two big things.

00:36.340 --> 00:37.320
We're packed, though.

00:37.320 --> 00:38.920
There's so many people who are interested.

00:38.920 --> 00:42.080
I mean, it's such a happening space right now, you know what I mean?

00:42.080 --> 00:42.920
It's real hot.

00:43.560 --> 00:50.460
But we have so many individuals that are coming and speaking today, from 9, 10 in the morning, all the way to 5 p.m.

00:50.460 --> 00:53.320
with workshops, the CTF.

00:53.320 --> 00:54.480
It's been a fun time so far.

00:54.480 --> 00:58.760
It's amazing to me that, like, every one of these villages, there's so much content going on.

00:58.760 --> 01:05.420
You'd get lost in the content the entire weekend, and not waste your time.

01:05.420 --> 01:07.440
There's so much information to learn.

01:07.440 --> 01:08.780
It's not just the Cobb Village, too, right?

01:08.780 --> 01:10.240
It's all these villages.

01:10.240 --> 01:12.140
You've got so much to do if you're here at Cobb.

01:12.220 --> 01:16.400
Now, one of the things I noticed at the CTF is, it is cloud-based.

01:16.400 --> 01:19.680
Now, we all joke, oh, well, cloud's just really someone else's computer.

01:19.960 --> 01:24.700
But within the CTF, what makes it different from the other CTFs happening around Cobb?

01:24.700 --> 01:31.040
Well, so, the other CTFs, I mean, to clarify, there are flags that you're going to need to get to.

01:31.040 --> 01:34.280
It's very much in the same vein as the CTF that you'd expect elsewhere.

01:34.280 --> 01:36.900
But it's going to leverage cloud-based vulnerabilities.

01:36.900 --> 01:41.840
So it might be things like open permissions that exist for, you know, S3 buckets or storage.

01:41.840 --> 01:44.920
There might be, like, insecure configurations you might need to go and leverage those.

01:44.920 --> 01:50.000
So it's very cloud-specific, where I think you might look at maybe the more traditional DEF CON CTFs.

01:50.000 --> 01:54.360
There's probably a lot of, like, binary hacking and things like getting around obfuscation and all that.

01:54.360 --> 01:56.740
You might not necessarily see that in this CTF.

01:57.020 --> 01:57.340
Okay .

01:57.380 --> 02:06.100
Well, with that, if anyone wants to learn more about it, I'm guessing some of this content, if someone wants to learn more about the Cloud Village and the talks going on, where can they go?

02:06.100 --> 02:07.580
Is this information available online?

02:07.580 --> 02:07.800
Yep.

02:07.800 --> 02:11.280
Go to cloud-village.org and you can find all the information that you need there.

02:11.320 --> 02:12.420
CTF's also available there.

02:12.800 --> 02:13.540
That's great.

02:13.540 --> 02:16.640
You're about to let a speaker know that they have to get off the stage.

02:16.640 --> 02:18.500
Again, these things have to be back-to-back.

02:18.540 --> 02:20.520
Thanks for sharing about the Cloud Village.

02:20.600 --> 02:23.580
Thanks for just running it and running this really great village.

02:23.580 --> 02:26.160
Can you tell us a little bit about the other runners of this village?

02:26.160 --> 02:29.060
Because, again, to put something together this big, you need a lot of people.

02:29.060 --> 02:30.660
Honestly, there's too many people to mention.

02:30.660 --> 02:32.560
I'm really thankful for everyone who came together and helped.

02:32.560 --> 02:37.380
But I think, you know, the most important folks are probably Jayesh, who's run the Cloud Village since 2019.

02:37.740 --> 02:41.640
He's working really hard to make sure that this has worked as well as it has.

02:41.720 --> 02:47.120
And then there's Craig, who's working on the CTF, and all of the other folks that are on the CTF, speaker ops, social media, everything.

02:47.120 --> 02:47.940
I'm very appreciative.

02:47.940 --> 02:48.280
Yeah.

02:48.280 --> 02:51.360
Thanks for watching, and as always, hack on!
