[00:00.000 --> 00:06.380] We're sitting down right now with CS, who is the designer of the TOR badge this year. We saw his [00:06.380 --> 00:12.900] work last year, which was so cool, but this year it's a much smaller badge. And he's here with us [00:12.900 --> 00:18.320] and we're checking it out. So what are we looking at right now? Yeah, the chip shortage is real, [00:18.320 --> 00:23.320] especially this year. It seemed to get worse, actually, than last year. So we remade the [00:23.320 --> 00:30.840] little TOR SAO badge from three years ago. And we're including it with this kit. Basically [00:30.840 --> 00:35.180] everything you see here except the actual handcuffs. But we are including the handcuff key, [00:35.180 --> 00:40.100] which is why those are out. My special for civilian use only handcuffs. Oh, interesting. [00:40.100 --> 00:45.940] And we cut the security bidding on there. So the extra like 0.6 millimeter slit. [00:47.040 --> 00:52.500] So that should be fun. Unless you're in Florida, don't try to conceal that. I guess you need it [00:52.680 --> 00:58.740] a key ring legally. But everywhere else have fun. Oh, interesting. Okay. So you get the key, [00:58.740 --> 01:03.100] you're now getting a battery. And what is the battery? Obviously the battery charges the badge. [01:03.180 --> 01:08.420] Oh my gosh, I cannot believe you're including this sticker. I saw one of these things at the [01:08.420 --> 01:14.640] airport. And like, like a jerk, I think I saw like two people try and plug into it. And it's, [01:14.640 --> 01:19.080] you know, you're messing with someone's power. It's a hard choice, but at the same time, [01:19.080 --> 01:24.560] equally hilarious. So you get a sticker, you obviously Defcon googly eyes. All right, [01:24.560 --> 01:27.980] let's dive into the badge because that's really that that's the meat and the potatoes of this. [01:27.980 --> 01:33.800] What is it? Yeah. So it's kind of in between a main badge and a shitty add-on because you can [01:33.800 --> 01:38.140] power it itself. It includes batteries. It comes with a battery holder and you can rip off the [01:38.140 --> 01:42.880] little double stick tape, slap that on the back, wear it on the included lanyard or, [01:43.340 --> 01:48.940] and actually XOR, because don't do both of these simultaneously. You can plug it in to a main badge [01:48.940 --> 01:55.680] via the SAO header. So it could work either way, either stealing the 3B3 off the main badge or [01:55.680 --> 02:00.820] powering off SCR123. Nice. And what it's doing right now, is it doing any sort of like special [02:00.820 --> 02:05.940] sequence or? Yeah. So there's like maybe 10 different sequences. There's a manual on GitHub [02:06.540 --> 02:12.020] and there's two unlocks. So there's two games. There's, you know, a limit to what I can actually [02:12.020 --> 02:18.260] put on here on both an ATtiny and with one button and five LEDs. But if you press and hold the [02:18.260 --> 02:24.420] button for like, I don't know, until the top and bottom LEDs start blinking, now release it. So [02:24.420 --> 02:28.100] it's in a reaction game. So once the LEDs start lighting up, you want to push the button as fast [02:28.100 --> 02:35.620] as possible. And it counted up in binary right there. So you got what? 16 plus 8 as a reaction [02:35.620 --> 02:40.460] score. So if you score less than five, then it unlocks like other blink back modes. Oh, very [02:40.460 --> 02:46.300] cool. And then the other game is like a button mashing game. So if you just start smashing it, [02:46.300 --> 02:50.760] the LEDs will kind of light up in a... Do I just push it? Yeah, just yeah, there you go. So now [02:50.760 --> 02:55.100] you're in the button mashing game. Oh, that's hilarious. So like you mentioned the chip [02:55.100 --> 02:59.460] shortage. Like last year, your badge was so advanced. When you tried to design something [02:59.460 --> 03:05.200] this year, did you just get hit? Like what was the... Obviously, chips are hard to find. Were [03:05.200 --> 03:09.560] you finding things like when you actually designed a badge, like you picked a chip and [03:09.560 --> 03:14.760] then it would be gone by the time you bought it? Yeah, so step one was just like, hey, I wonder [03:14.760 --> 03:19.360] if we can even make these again. And you look up on the usual Digikey, Mouser and Octopart. [03:19.480 --> 03:23.560] And even recently, I looked up for this ATtiny. And it's like, yeah, you can have them in June [03:23.560 --> 03:29.340] 2023. So I don't even know what I'm going to do next year at this point. Oh, sheesh. It's pretty [03:29.340 --> 03:34.960] bad. Luckily, the chip or the board manufacturer I use said, oh, yeah, we have a thousand of them [03:34.960 --> 03:39.080] if you want. I don't know how legitimate those chips are, but they seem to work well enough [03:39.080 --> 03:46.000] anyway. Yeah, it seems crazy to me because it feels like if you're doing like one or two badges, [03:46.000 --> 03:50.220] you know, big manufacturers weren't hit, I feel, as hard because they were getting the first stock [03:50.220 --> 03:54.900] directly from the factory. But a lot of just the hacking and tinkering got hit a little bit harder. [03:55.020 --> 03:59.140] This is cool. What else? Anything else you need to tell us about the badge? [03:59.400 --> 04:05.720] So these are for $40 at the tour booth, obviously a lot less expensive than last year. And again, [04:05.860 --> 04:10.580] a lot less intricate and complex because I didn't have to make sure I needed all of these [04:10.580 --> 04:15.080] different parts in the quantities we were trying to pull off. This is really cool. Really, [04:15.080 --> 04:19.900] thanks so much. Thanks for diving into this. I really appreciate you coming back. I cannot wait [04:19.900 --> 04:25.240] to see what you do next year. Thanks for joining us. We got a guest token for the Hacker Hangouts [04:25.240 --> 04:31.220] booth. I got another one from the dark net I'll give you. Thank you so much. Thanks for watching. [04:31.220 --> 04:36.580] Thanks for just checking out the first badge. If many to come on the channel and hack on.
