    "text": " Hi, I'm Whitney Merrill with the Crypto and Privacy Village. Here we have folks from all over working on puzzles, talking about cryptography, talking about privacy, and really, you know, sharing knowledge, both introductory topics on privacy, as well as like deep crypto topics like quantum resistant cryptography. I think we try to create a puzzle for all different types of people with different types of knowledge. And so I see kids working on our puzzles, I see adults working on our puzzles. The hope is that you have to work with other people who have different types of knowledge in order to solve it. So there's not like a specific persona who is the one that we're trying to target to try to solve the puzzle. The Crypto and Privacy Village is a 501c3. So we take donations at DEF CON, and then give like a thank you gift with that donation. We've been running this village now for our ninth year. And this helps us do just kind of the basic infrastructure, our storage unit, our annual operating costs, etc. But we are 100% volunteer run. But all of the money that's donated to us goes to continuing to operate this village year after year. We have a puzzle going on right now called the Gold Bug. We've been running it for many years. And so folks are working on that puzzle. I'm Kevin Cryptoc on Discord and Twitter. I'm here with the Gold Bug Challenge. The Gold Bug Challenge is a crypto puzzle. This year we have a series of 11 puzzles. Our theme is back to school. So each of the puzzles is based off of a different school subject. If you go to our website and goldbug.cryptovillage.org, you can download all the puzzles. We also have a BBS system up there where you can you can submit your answers. I encourage you to go on our Discord and find a team to work on some of the problems. Your first challenge is going to be figuring out what you're supposed to do. It's largely a bunch of classic crypto style puzzles, so not a lot of deep RSA or elliptic curve crypto or anything like that, but definitely not something that is going to be obvious. The teams that have won in the past have spent their entire con working on the contest. It takes some resiliency and some ingenuity and creativity to get to the end. I will say that as the contest goes on, we will start dropping hints to help teams make progress. Everyone enjoys a contest that, you know, enables you to have those eureka moments. No one enjoys a contest that just keeps you frustrated. So it's not our intent to make you hate the puzzle. We want you to have fun. So we'll help you along. Please ask questions.
