[00:10.160 --> 00:14.400] Hey everybody, here we are back again, still at DEF CON, still running around doing these [00:14.400 --> 00:18.160] crazy interviews. We took a chance to slow down a little bit. We're checking out the [00:18.160 --> 00:23.380] Hacker Memorial right now. I'm sitting here with Hunter, who is also the founder and whole [00:23.380 --> 00:24.800] reason this thing started, correct? [00:24.800 --> 00:36.580] Well, Jeff created it, for sure. And it was kind of a group request after Dan passed. [00:37.200 --> 00:45.080] And I've been with DEF CON, this is my 24th year. And I was looking for some other things [00:45.080 --> 00:51.580] to do and contribute. And this is an area that I actually have a lot of training in. [00:52.030 --> 01:00.980] So I'm the lead right now, and we're growing. It's our third year. And we just want to make [01:00.980 --> 01:07.540] sure people understand this is a great thing to do and come and share stories and honor [01:07.540 --> 01:16.720] and laugh and cry about people that you've known, people who helped you learn things, [01:16.720 --> 01:28.940] people who showed you how to be an amazing hacker. And as a community, honoring those [01:28.940 --> 01:38.060] who have come before us is a really important way to bring us together. And also, with new [01:38.060 --> 01:46.540] people coming in, or newbies, I think that's out of place these days, as a word, they get [01:46.540 --> 01:53.100] to have a deeper sense of what DEF CON is about, and what this community is about. [01:54.820 --> 01:59.680] Yeah, it's definitely... I love the idea. I love what you guys have going on here. It's [01:59.680 --> 02:04.560] really nice that you're giving people that chance for remembrance and a chance to slow [02:04.560 --> 02:08.220] down and kind of keep these people in their memories, let them enjoy it, or kind of feel [02:08.220 --> 02:11.760] like they're around again. Because this is a big community, and the last few years have [02:11.760 --> 02:16.860] definitely made none of us strangers to loss. Yeah. I think this is really cool, because it [02:16.860 --> 02:20.840] makes me think about that old saying that you're never really truly dead until your name's [02:20.840 --> 02:25.580] uttered for the last time. So this is a good way to kind of keep everybody around and remembered. [02:25.940 --> 02:31.620] And we have various things people can do here. They can write on this. This is an [02:31.620 --> 02:38.540] addition to this year. And it is that element that we don't want to forget. [02:39.280 --> 02:44.380] And we won't if we keep connecting and sharing and [02:46.200 --> 02:53.000] telling crazy stories about what someone did back in the day, which they might not actually [02:53.000 --> 02:59.400] do anymore. You know, because back then the laws were different, and now it's a little different. [02:59.400 --> 03:10.400] But it keeps us alive. And Jeff is looking at and we're looking at how to expand this. [03:10.820 --> 03:16.940] If you have ideas, if there are things you think would be great here, please come and share those. [03:17.500 --> 03:25.400] We are not set in stone, so to speak. We have stones you can draw on, but we are not set in [03:25.400 --> 03:32.900] stone. We will be constantly evolving. One thing that's being looked at is [03:33.610 --> 03:37.280] kind of having a presence virtually year-round. [03:38.240 --> 03:48.040] Being a space where if you lose someone in that moment, at that time, you can start [03:49.000 --> 03:54.340] connecting with your family, your DEFCON family, about what you're going through or just [03:55.400 --> 04:00.640] you know, it's not like you have to tell everybody everything because this is a relatively private [04:00.640 --> 04:08.940] group. But people won't be asking you questions. They just want to be present and help. And [04:11.540 --> 04:19.660] oftentimes people may not even know if it's someone close to them what their next step needs to be. [04:20.900 --> 04:25.340] Well, it's nice to see you got the community helping the community. So yeah, we're very [04:25.340 --> 04:28.920] thankful for what you're doing here. We love that you were able to take the time to talk with us. [04:29.000 --> 04:36.760] You bet. We're here every day until about 6, 630 and on Sunday we'll close down about noon so we [04:36.760 --> 04:44.000] can get ready for closing. But please come see us. And we're out, if you go to Infobooth or [04:44.000 --> 04:51.480] HackerTracker you'll find us and there's an email that we have and if you can send us photographs [04:52.100 --> 04:57.920] of your friends or times with them and we can print here and we will also keep them [04:57.920 --> 05:04.080] and keep them online. If you get a chance, come slow down for a minute, [05:04.080 --> 05:09.620] check out the memorial everyone. See you next time. It's cool and we have water.
