0	7960	Hi everyone! Welcome back to TinyMike Interviews at DEF CON 31. I am here at the Scavenger Hunt contest with Zora.
8180	9080	Yes.
9080	15440	And I think that the Scavenger Hunt is one of the most interesting parts of DEF CON, besides everyone.
16220	17460	It is so chaotic.
17460	19100	It is entirely chaotic.
19100	21660	It is the definition of DEF CON chaos.
21660	22300	Yes.
23420	27060	And I feel like there needs to be more features on it, hence why I'm here.
27360	29360	Tell me about the Scavenger Hunt.
29360	31540	Obviously the Scavenger Hunt, but tell me about it.
31540	34820	Okay, so this is our 26th year here at DEF CON.
34920	35360	26?!
35360	37480	Yes, we are 26 years old.
37480	38200	Oh my god.
38200	42100	Yes, we are one of the longest running contests here at DEF CON.
42340	47240	We are what we call, we keep the shenanigans alive, we keep DEF CON weird.
48500	56260	That is the embodiment of what we try to do and keep that side of the culture of DEF CON alive.
56720	65320	So, in the 26 years, there's been a lot of ideas and weirdness that's happened.
65320	65380	Yes.
65380	70880	I mean, if you're not here right now, the booth is probably one of the most interesting booths in the world.
71220	76780	But I would love to know, this year, what is your favorite item on the Scavenger Hunt list?
76780	77500	Oh my gosh.
77500	85320	So this year, we have quite a few items interacting with as many of the contests as we possibly could do this year.
85320	85880	Okay.
86080	91480	So, honestly, I hate to say, I haven't had a chance to go through the finalized list.
91480	91860	Oh my god.
91860	95080	Because it has been absolutely chaotic behind our table.
95080	98140	So, we got our list printed and we just threw it out to people.
98140	101220	I actually haven't had my chance to look at my items.
101520	108160	But I do know that we have a lot dealing with people and a lot dealing with the contest this year.
108160	111280	So I'm hoping things will be really quiet.
111480	114380	So then, maybe in past years, which one's been your favorite?
114380	115520	Oh gosh.
115640	116740	That is, oh, that's so many years.
116740	120220	Do you mind that the Scavenger Hunt is also like low-key?
120220	121700	It's not PG.
122000	122620	No.
122620	123240	It's not PG.
123240	124260	It is not PG.
124260	127600	We have toned it down a little bit over the years.
127600	132220	We try to be a little more friendly, a little more, you know, you know.
133960	138160	When I played back in 2020, DEF CON 20 was my first year.
138160	140760	And I played as a solo player team.
142260	145820	And honestly, at the time, my favorite items were group items.
145820	148600	Because it was like your entire group in this pool.
148600	150520	Or your entire group hugging goons.
150520	152420	I was like, great, it's just me.
152420	153620	It works out.
153820	158920	I love the items where it's really left up to interpretation.
158980	163200	So one of the items that I really found hilarious was bare breasts.
163900	165840	I know, we said it's not PG.
165980	170280	Bare breasts was really hilarious because it turned in boneless chicken skinless.
170780	171580	Absolutely.
172080	173860	Because when you say bare breasts, you mean chicken breasts.
173860	176600	We weren't species specific and we weren't gender specific.
176600	180180	So a lot of guys also came up to the table and just flashed judges.
180480	180820	Wow.
180820	181240	Yeah.
181240	181800	I love DEF CON.
181800	183660	I love DEF CON.
183740	185860	What's the highest score you've ever seen?
186260	187740	Oh, God, I don't even know.
187740	188960	What is the highest score?
188960	194260	I mean, I know there's only one team in history that has come close to completing the list.
194400	196840	There was only one item that they could not get.
196840	200040	And it was because it was actually illegal to bring into the U.S.
200040	202240	The coders get it at the time.
203040	205460	But that team are now judges.
205480	206380	Oh, my God.
208760	212020	But the highest score, we only have a certain amount of points.
212020	215040	So we only go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
215040	217760	And the highest item that we have is 10 points.
217760	222480	So like last year's 10 point item was bounce a meme off the moon.
224300	228160	So, I mean, we didn't think this one through.
228160	231640	We were thinking using radio and things like that.
232000	236140	Then we had somebody with a picture of the moon.
236140	239840	And then they mooned the Chill Out Lounge and they threw the phone at their behind.
240020	242920	And it did count. It absolutely did count.
243100	246960	I love the fact that there's so many different ways to interpret the items.
246960	249220	And that's what makes The Scavengers so awesome.
249220	252060	It's just the insane interpretations you'll get.
252060	260880	So for the people at home who are watching about DEF CON remotely, what do you want them to know?
262160	266820	If you've never done DEF CON before, this is what you do.
266820	268280	Your first DEF CON.
269080	273020	It's entry level. You don't have to have a lot of experience.
273020	278600	Like I mentioned earlier, my first DEF CON, I came in as a single player team.
278600	282580	And I placed 4th, starting a day late.
282580	286400	I started late Saturday afternoon. I competed against teams of 5.
286420	289100	And I still made it up there.
289100	290740	And now I'm running the contest.
292160	296600	People who come and play our contest, they go on to do so many other things with the con.
296600	299160	They become goons. They become event organizers.
299260	304120	If you come here and you play this game, you're going to make a name for yourself.
304120	305840	Either way, people are going to know you.
305840	309720	You're going to get to meet people. You're going to get to experience every bit of DEF CON.
309720	314580	Because as we try to do, we try to involve contests and villages and people and everything like that.
314580	319200	So, if it's your first DEF CON, come do this. Don't be afraid to do it.
319840	321120	We're not that mean.
321200	322420	That's so awesome.
322980	327000	That's so awesome. Well, thank you so much for sharing your stories with us.
327000	328060	This is awesome.
328920	333700	So, next year or if you're here now, come check it out.
333700	336140	Scavenge around in the contest room.
336260	338300	We're in the far corner. You can't miss us, though.
338300	340180	You cannot miss this place.
340340	341600	But thank you so much for this.
341600	342300	Thank you.
342300	343140	Awesome.
