[00:06.000 --> 00:11.600] Hello, and welcome to DEF CON. I'm the Executive Director of the Biohacking Village, Nina Lee, [00:11.600 --> 00:15.960] and this is your three-minute tour of how to participate at the Village this year. Some [00:15.960 --> 00:20.760] background, the Biohacking Village focuses on biotechnology, cybersecurity, and citizen [00:20.760 --> 00:26.980] science. We have five labs to promote learning in this way. Our first lab is the device lab. [00:26.980 --> 00:31.020] Medical device manufacturers bring in their wares and allow the cybersecurity researchers [00:31.020 --> 00:37.760] to do more hands-on vulnerability disclosures to them. Our speaker lab focuses on possible [00:37.760 --> 00:41.500] exploits or things that they've been working on throughout the year and discussing that [00:41.500 --> 00:46.860] with the larger community. Our catalyst lab is more hands-on based for building, breaking, [00:46.860 --> 00:51.740] and programming. Our capture the flag is an immersive learning challenge where you level [00:51.740 --> 00:55.840] up going through different parts of the hospital and different parts of critical infrastructure [00:55.840 --> 01:02.500] that influence issues within the hospital. Our tabletop exercises are immersive, they [01:02.500 --> 01:08.260] are hands-on, they are all of the labs put together. Some background on why we do what [01:08.260 --> 01:14.940] we do. There's a lot of technological dependency as we have continued in healthcare and bringing [01:14.940 --> 01:21.040] in more technology into that particular industry. As we've all learned, data has become a more [01:21.040 --> 01:28.060] viable and valuable commodity and the regulations and legal obligations that the manufacturers [01:28.060 --> 01:33.260] are under, the patients are under, that the government is under, has started to create [01:33.260 --> 01:39.740] different requirements for us to start managing well. Society expects data and information [01:39.740 --> 01:46.280] to be kept safe. We are investing in the trust of our citizens to ensure that we can maintain [01:46.280 --> 01:52.340] our integrity of data and information and keep them safe through their hospital and [01:52.340 --> 01:58.980] healthcare experiences. Healthcare is a global issue. The devices that are made do not get [01:58.980 --> 02:03.760] made per country or per city. They are a device that gets sent out into the world, therefore [02:03.760 --> 02:08.660] creating a very different dynamic, a different paradigm of how healthcare should be looked [02:08.660 --> 02:15.900] at. The innovation space in healthcare is quite quick now after the pandemic. It's improving [02:15.900 --> 02:20.800] our quality of life and we are able to use apps and go to the hospital and all of that [02:20.800 --> 02:26.140] integrates into a lot of information that can help the patient be and feel better. However, [02:26.140 --> 02:30.500] we have to constantly think about the vulnerabilities and the threats that are omnipresent and may [02:30.500 --> 02:35.420] affect us as human life. What are we excited about for this year? There's a lot of very [02:35.420 --> 02:41.440] cool things happening. We are working with a lot more of the ecosystem, the researchers, [02:41.440 --> 02:48.600] the regulators, the patients, the insurers, the lawyers, to bring everyone in so that [02:48.600 --> 02:55.120] we all understand where we are in the current situation and how we can better the bio-economy [02:55.120 --> 03:00.860] so that patients can get better treatment, better care, faster and increasing their safety [03:00.860 --> 03:07.260] while reducing risk. So please stop by the Biohacking Village. If you have any questions [03:07.260 --> 03:13.420] prior to, please feel free to reach out to me. As a bonus round, we have not put our badge out [03:13.420 --> 03:23.000] to the public yet, but I wanted to share with you what exactly it looks like. So this is a [03:23.000 --> 03:31.120] normal heartbeat. The red signifying oxygenated blood, the blue signifying deoxygenated blood. [03:31.120 --> 03:37.120] And the cool part about this badge is that if you press down on it, it will take your heartbeat. So [03:37.120 --> 03:42.560] we'd love to have you by and discuss any questions or anything you want to talk about. Thanks. Bye. [03:47.280 --> 03:50.240] Why did I say bye? Like it's a phone call. [03:52.020 --> 03:54.660] Hi, I'm Biohacking Barbie.
