Rainbow Tables ============== Precomputed hash-reversal sets for password-audit and research work. These are very large (tens to hundreds of GB each), so they are not auto-downloaded — pull the specific set you need from its canonical source below, into this folder, and it will appear in the browser automatically. Canonical public sources ------------------------- * RainbowCrack project tables (LM, NTLM, MD5, SHA1) — free and paid sets: https://project-rainbowcrack.com/table.htm * Free Rainbow Tables (community, LM/NTLM/MD5) — distributed by torrent: https://freerainbowtables.com/ * Ophcrack tables (LM/NTLM, incl. the free "small"/"XP free" sets): https://ophcrack.sourceforge.io/tables.php How to add a set ---------------- 1. Download or torrent the .rt / .rtc files into a named subfolder here, e.g. Rainbow Tables/ntlm_mixalpha-numeric#1-8/ 2. Fix permissions so the web server can read them: sudo chgrp -R www-data "Rainbow Tables/" && sudo chmod -R g+rX "Rainbow Tables/" 3. It shows up at https://www.peterbassill.com/media/Rainbow%20Tables Note on usefulness ------------------ Rainbow tables only help against unsalted hashes. They are mainly of interest for legacy LM/NTLM audit work and for demonstrating, in awareness sessions, why salting and modern KDFs matter. For salted/modern hashes a wordlist run beats a rainbow table.
