I am moving roles

A personal note. After years at the same employer (the DEC government contract I started in 1996), I am moving to a new role. The change is happening this month.

What is changing

The new role is at a UK online-gaming operator, as their network and security manager. The combined network-and-security responsibility is unusual and is part of what attracted me — the integration of the two functions is what I have been writing about as the right architectural approach.

The move is, in some sense, the operational test of the disciplines I have been writing about for five years. Running production infrastructure where availability and defensibility are both critical, where the trade-off has to be navigated daily, is meaningfully different from writing about it.

What it changes for the notebook

The weekly cadence continues. The technical focus may shift slightly toward what I am working with day-to-day. The notebook itself is unchanged in purpose.

More as the transition completes.
